You might consider Blepharoplasty if drooping or sagging eyelids make you look tired or old, keep your eyes from opening completely or pull your lower eyelids down. Removing excess tissue from your upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both can improve vision and make your eyes appear younger and more alert. Blepharoplasty may be an option if you have:
- Baggy or puffy upper eyelids
- Excess skin of the upper eyelid that interferes with your vision
- Droopy lower eyelids, which may cause white to show below the iris (colored part of the eye)
- Excess skin on lower eyelids
- Bags under your eyes
This procedure is typically performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia with sedation. The recovery period is 10-14 days, during which the swelling and bruising resolve. The scars are well hidden in natural skin creases. These procedures have a low risk profile and a high patient satisfaction rate.
Blepharoplasty can be performed at the same time as another procedure, such as:
- brow lifting to improve tired appearing eyes or forehead wrinkles
- face-lift to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck
- skin treatments or laser surgery to improve fine wrinkles in the face
