Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the facial region between the upper eyelids and the scalp, extending to the temples. A brow lift will reposition a low or sagging brow that is obscuring the upper eyelid. It also raises the eyebrows to a more alert and youthful position.
Your brow lift will be individualized based on factors such as your skin, muscle tone, forehead height and bone structure while taking into consideration the conditions you wish to correct.
Incisions are typically concealed within the hair or natural contours of the face. Brow lift incisions are typically closed with removable sutures, skin adhesives, surgical tape or special clips. A brow lift may take two hours or more depending on the extent of the rejuvenation and methods used. Results appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside to reveal smoother forehead skin and a more youthful, restful appearance.
Your recovery
When your procedure is completed, your forehead may be taped and your head may be loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising.
Initial wound healing may take 5 to 10 days, at which time any sutures will be removed, if necessary.
You will be ready to return to work and normal activities at this time.
Healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling disappears and the incision lines start to fade away.
Sun protection will be essential during your recovery until your healing process is fully complete.
Additional procedures you may wish to have in addition to your brow lift:
- Eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes
- Facelift to correct aging changes in the mid- to lower face and neck regions
- Skin resurfacing techniques
